Callan Green ACS NZCS served as Director of Photography on Nobody 2, shaping a bold, character-led visual approach that balances crisp action clarity with a heightened, playful energy—sunlit on the surface, dangerous underneath.


OVERVIEW

Nobody 2 is a 2025 American action-thriller directed by Timo Tjahjanto. It serves as the sequel to Nobody and follows Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) as a hard-won attempt at normal life is interrupted—again—by forces that refuse to let the past stay buried. The film stars Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, RZA, Christopher Lloyd, Sharon Stone, John Ortiz, and Colin Hanks. The screenplay is credited to Derek Kolstad and Aaron Rabin, with additional literary material credited to Bob Odenkirk and Umair Aleem. Nobody 2 was released by Universal Pictures on 15 August 2025 (including the UK), produced by 87North Productions and Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment.

From a cinematography point of view, the guiding idea was to evolve the franchise’s visual DNA into something that feels like a mischievous summer cousin: bolder colour, brighter energy, and punchier contrast, while keeping the grit, pain and consequence that make the violence land. The camera stays close enough to feel the impact, but disciplined enough to preserve geography—choreography first, confusion never. When the story turns inward, the style tightens into clean singles and controlled stillness; when it erupts, movement becomes sharper and more kinetic, without losing readability.

The film was photographed on the ARRI ALEXA 35 paired with Panavision T-Series anamorphic lenses, giving the images a strong cinematic character—rich contrast, dimensional faces, and a heightened edge that suits the film’s tonal blend of dark comedy and danger. A custom colour pipeline (in collaboration with Company 3) helped hold the film’s vibrant palette while protecting shadow detail and keeping the darker undercurrent present even in the most colourful environments.

Set-pieces were approached as opportunities where problem-solving and style collide—none more so than the film’s hall-of-mirrors sequence. Rather than fight reflections, the design leans into them: lighting was integrated directly into the set using full-spectrum LED rope lights with DMX control, allowing the environment to shift, chase and re-orient around the action—playful, dazzling, and threatening all at once.

Shot in Winnipeg, Canada, Nobody 2 uses the intensity of daylight and the glow of practical-heavy interiors to build a world that can flip from nostalgic fun to hard-edged violence in a single beat—always rooted in character, always in motion.
